Family Intervention Service

Located in the heart of North London, our Intercultural Family Intervention Service is a valuable therapeutic support for families, couples, and carers coming from diverse cultural backgrounds. With a primary focus on the boroughs of Camden, Haringey, Islington, and Enfield, we address the pressing need for psychotherapeutic intervention for families, by offering proactive, preventive solutions.

Family therapy is an important element of our work, as we believe it's instrumental in shaping the overall mental health of individuals. This belief is grounded in the understanding that families act as the primary social unit wherein individuals develop their identities, learn social norms, and acquire emotional coping mechanisms. Therefore, any disruptions or conflicts within this unit can have a profound impact on the mental health of its members.

We strive to facilitate healthier, more harmonious family dynamics by helping families devise comprehensive strategies that cater to the mental health needs of all members, with particular emphasis on the younger population. We aim to foster an environment where each family member feels heard, understood, and valued, ultimately fostering better mental well-being for everyone involved.

Our ultimate goal is twofold: firstly, we seek to reduce the burden on GPs and hospitals by addressing potential mental health issues at their root - within the family unit. Secondly, by providing culturally-sensitive, intercultural family interventions, we aim to address and navigate the unique challenges faced by each family, taking into account their cultural values, beliefs, and traditions.

Our mission is especially centred on assisting marginalised families, particularly those from global majority backgrounds. We recognise the unique pressures and challenges faced by these families, often magnified by the intersection of mental health and cultural stigma. Through targeted family group work, we provide the tools and support necessary to overcome these hurdles, helping these families overcome mental health challenges, and build resilience.
